Social Justice Team is Getting Ready for April Day of Service
Day of Service
One of the most UU things you can do each month is Day of Service, which provides an opportunity to live your UU values! The Social Justice Team works on providing meaningful social justice opportunities for UUS members, such as assembling toiletries for Inside Out or holding a Valentine’s Day party for immigrant children. In March, we gathered at Houses into Homes where we selected and packed household items, upcycled furniture, and accomplished some warehouse organization.
A particularly exciting Day of Service is planned for April 19 in conjunction with the UUS Grounds Team. We offer a great way to celebrate spring and our beautiful property by planting, weeding, and sprucing up our outdoor space. Watch the Updates for more details on the April Day of Service/UUS work day!
Immigrant Action Team
The Immigrant Action Team has been super busy lately due to: completing applications for Green Cards, four lawyer visits, medical appointments, transportation to English, computer, and sewing classes, tutoring, trips to the CommUnity food bank, outings for enrichment, and teacher-parent conferences. That is just half of the team’s activities.
Contact Sally Hartman ([email protected]) or Deb Schoelerman ([email protected]) if you would like to volunteer and become a part of an immigrant family’s life.
IUUWAN
The Iowa UU Witness and Advocacy Network brings Iowa UUs together! Â Perhaps you would like to collaborate with other UUs in other cities to advocate for social justice. There is room on the IUUWAN Board, or consider one of our teams. Our two teams are addressing immigration issues and the environment. Contact Sally Hartman if you are interested in working toward change in Iowa ([email protected]).
