UUSIC Buddhist Sangha March
The UU Buddhist Sangha is continuing its focus on Zen Buddhism tradition with members sharing Zen stories, poetry, famous teachers and traditions, and koans. We are selecting an original text to read together. We are also revisiting the Noble Eightfold Path–the Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching. The word path might be slightly misleading, because the “Eight Right…” are taken together as simultaneous and equally vital, meant to be transformative and complete. As with all Buddhist teachings, we are asked to consider, contemplate and live the teachings. We are not asked to take anything on faith — it’s about self-discovery of the truth of the Buddha’s teachings. At the core of the Wheel of Dharma is Meditation, or Zazen, which we practice in community each Zoom meeting on Monday eve.
The UUIC sangha leadership are members of UU Buddhist Fellowship (UUBF), an organization that provides spiritual and practical resources to all who are interested in Unitarian Universalist Buddhism. The UUBF link below provides an INTRODUCTION, BUDDHIST AND UU RESOURCES, SERMONS, back issues of the UU Sangha journal, and a list of PRACTICE GROUPS. We are listed under Iowa. UUBF is a rich resource for those who have a clear commitment to Buddhist practice within Unitarian Universalism.
