Traditional and Contemporary Gamelan Music and Dance with Grinnell’s Balinese Arts ensemble Gamelan Pawisik

UUS is excited to welcome Gamelan Pawisik for an afternoon performance and audience workshop from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, December 2nd. Gamelan Pawisik is Grinnell College’s Balinese Arts ensemble comprised of the Balinese Sound Ensemble and the Balinese Dance class. They play traditional and contemporary gamelan music of Bali, Indonesia. Instrumentation includes various percussion instruments supplemented by flutes and voice.

The afternoon event at UUS will include a presentation of two instrumental pieces, one dance piece, and an audience workshop. Gamelan Pawisik prides themselves on communal composition and collective learning. All of the pieces will require the participation of a creative community. Gamelan Pawisik is led by Professor Putu Hiranmayena and Professor Dewa Ayu Eka Putri.
