Free Lunch Serves Valentines Meal in February

The UUS Free Lunch Crew cooked up a tasty Valentine’s meal for 120 diners in February. The main dish was chicken tenders donated by a restaurant. The team made homemade gourmet macaroni and cheese and Hawaiian coleslaw to serve as side dishes. The Roots and Wings covenant group made 140 decorated cupcakes for dessert. The meal was greatly enjoyed and many people stayed to visit and enjoy community. In addition, a team from The United Way had a meeting and stayed for lunch with us.

Volunteering that day were leaders Frank Wildensee and Vicki Siefers. Joining them to chop veggies, serve food and clean up were Barb Haring, Dick Siefers, Winnie Ganshaw, David Quegg, Russ Lenth, Joy Thompson, Gare Calhoun, John Elson, Caryl Lyons, Janet McKee, Terri O’Berry, Gay Mikelson, and Gene McCracken and Judy Davis from the Des Moines Congregation joined us.

The next Free Lunch will be Friday, March 14. The March main dish is donated by Jeanette Carter. Send an email to [email protected] to get on the mailing list and receive an invitation to the Sign Up Genius to volunteer. It is a fun way to meet up with fellow UUs and help out in the community.
