Covenant Groups in February
In February, covenant groups concerned themselves with a subject of increasing importance in our world, the practice of “Inclusion.” That word conjures up the primal hunger to belong, the longing to be part of a group—a family, a circle of friends, a work staff. Society. No one likes to be excluded, everyone likes the feeling of being “let in.”
But once you’re in, what then? What about others who are still outside, longing for what you finally have? We need to remember to welcome them in as well. And more—welcome them as fully participating members with ideas we act on and needs we work to meet. As author/consultant Verna Myers famously said, “Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance.”
If questions like these intrigue you, you might want to consider joining a covenant group. The covenant group program offers its members the opportunity to share their views and deepen their understanding of a wide range of issues while creating closer ties with other UUs.
