Earth Festival 2023

Celebrate the Earth with UUS’ first Earth Festival!

This event is open to the public. Our family-friendly event will be utilizing our whole building and as much of our land as possible to provide provide educational speakers, hands-on activities, vendors that demonstrate the beauty and diversity of our Earth and community, and so much more!

Some highlights include:
  • Programming from Backyard Abundance
  • Presentation from Raptology
  • Make aquifers in a jar with American Resiliency
  • Sustainable, eco-friendly hands-on makers stations
  • Vendor booths, raffle baskets and food trucks
  • Face painting and temporary tattoos
  • Guided walks through our trails
  • Plant identification activities
  • and much, much more!

10-3: Plant ID walks led by UUS Land Ministry Team and Face Painting by our UUS Youth Group

10-3: Raffle Baskets, Vendor Booths and Food Trucks on-site (Rodney’s Jamaican Jerk & BBQ, South Side Street Foods, Which UH Waffle)

10-3: Create Aquifers in a Jar with American Resiliency, Recycling Makers Activity presented by IC Fab Lab, Sheep to Cloth hands-on activity, and Making Seed Tape with Owl Moon CUUPS

11-12: Wild Medicine Bounty led by Mandy of Backyard Abundance– Join us on a joyful ramble along the trail and sunny edges. Get to know some of the remarkable plant allies we have in our bioregion. Learn how their curiously beneficial and potent qualities have been recognized and interwoven into diverse traditions, to flavor food and serve as medicine.

12-1: Plants for Fire-making led by Fred of Backyard Abundance-Learn about common trees and herbs that have been used for thousands of years to make fires.

1-1:45: Birds of Prey Meet and Greet presented by Raptology

2-3: Forest Bathing: An Ephemeral Practice led by Emelia of Backyard Abundance-Bring your whole self on this gentle, reflective walk with the land and let’s see what we encounter. We will be provided with an opportunity to slow down and be present with self and with the world around us. We will bathe in the medicine of the land, known as Shinrin-Yoku, a practice that first started in Japan.

2:30: Wrap the Maypole with Owl Moon CUUPS
