Covenant Groups in September
After not meeting in August (except informally for social events), covenant groups reconvened In September to renew their covenants and discuss how to go about “Building Belonging.” Spiritual writer Toko-Pa Turner says that “our longing for community is so powerful that it can drive us to join groups, relationships, or systems of belief that give a false impression of belonging.” In other words, for the sake of companionship, people often join groups that don’t allow them to be their genuine selves but require them to suppress the parts that don’t “fit in.” If this is something you struggle with, how do you find your way around it? What do you do to stay true to your individuality and complexity and still find meaningful connection with others?
October’s theme will be “Nurturing Gratitude”. If subjects like these intrigue you, you might want to consider joining a covenant group. The covenant group program offers its members the opportunity to share their views and deepen their understanding of a wide range of issues while creating closer ties with other UUs.
