Covenant Groups in March
In March, covenant groups considered the many ways we need to call on trust to get through life. We need to trust our friends and loved ones, believe they tell us the truth and don’t reject our love for them. We need to trust our social and governmental institutions, believe that they will function in a way that upholds order and treats everyone justly according to the guiding principles of our society. An increasingly challenging thing to do in these distressing times. And perhaps most importantly, we need to trust ourselves, need to believe that the choices we make are the right ones, the best ones for our own good and the good of those around us. Trust rewarded can be among the most satisfying feelings we ever experience, but it’s always a bit scary, because it exists in a world that surrounds us with disappointments. Famously, R. M. Williams said, “Trust is the easiest thing in the world to lose, and the hardest thing in the world to get back.”
How does trust affect your life? Is it easy or difficult for you to trust? What challenges your trust the most, or supports it when you need, despite your fears, to continue believing?
If questions like these intrigue you, you might want to consider joining a covenant group. The covenant group program offers its members the opportunity to share their views and deepen their understanding of a wide range of issues while creating closer ties with other UUs.
