The Free Lunch Program is our November Community Partner

The Free Lunch Program of Iowa City operates six days a week, with volunteer teams preparing and serving nutritious meals using their own food or the food from local restaurants, grocery stores, and food distributors via Table to Table Food Rescue Organization, and from items in the Free Lunch pantry obtained through the HACAP Food Reservoir.

Respecting the dignity of the guests has been the cornerstone of its service. “An open door, a full plate, no questions asked.” This guiding principle of unconditional respect and hospitality has been as integral to the program as the hot, nourishing meals.

On the second Friday of every month for more than 30 years, UUs have prepared and served a delicious hot lunch to anyone in our community who is hungry. The UUS Free Lunch volunteers are one of our most enthusiastic and energetic groups. Our first lunch was served to a few dozen hungry guests in the basement of the Wesley Foundation on August 8th, 1986 and we have not missed a second Friday since then!

Cash or checks to UUS (FLP on memo line) may be given on Sundays, sent to the office, or can be given online. (
