CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank (formerly the Crisis Center) is a volunteer-driven organization based in Iowa City. For 50 years it has provided immediate and non-judgmental support for individuals facing emotional, food, or financial crisis. Currently more than 250 volunteers assist a small paid staff. Services include a 24/7 crisis hotline, chat and text hotlines; support groups; in-house and mobile food banks; a basic needs program that includes utility and housing assistance, a mobile mental-health crisis outreach program, and prescription and other health and work-related assistance.
