From Your Director of Religious Education

Summer is here and it’s a great time for rising Jr. & Sr. High youth to re-engage with your UU community!

Summer Youth Events

Saturday, June 10th: Calling all youth! We will be meeting at 10 am at the new church site to help clear trails as part of the UUSIC Day of Service. Bring shovels and clippers, wear long pants, closed shoes, & work gloves. We will bring extra shovels, clippers, and work gloves in case any youth do not have them. After about 2 hours in the woods, we’ll eat lunch together (it will be provided) and then head to City High School from 2:15 to 4:30 pm to help package food for the “Feed My Starving Children” program. Afterwards, we’ll end our Day of Service by going out for dinner. RSVP to Jim Trepka (

Saturday, June 17th: Let’s come out in full UU force to support the Iowa City Pride Parade. We’ll meet at 12:30 pm and take to the streets! RSVP to Sally Hartman ( and let us know if you need a ride or yellow “Standing on the Side of Love” shirt!

Tuesday, July 4th: Well, the Pride Parade was fun—let’s march with the UUSIC group in the Coralville July 4th Parade too! I know it’s early for teenagers, but we’re going to meet at 9:30 am. You can do it! RSVP to Sally Hartman.

Saturday, August 26th: We’re going to start the year off right—with a camp out and chance to reconnect. If possible, we will camp on the church property but, depending on the construction schedule, we may have to meet elsewhere (stay tuned!). We’ll meet at 6 pm and dinner/breakfast will be provided. RSVP to Jim Trepka.
