Kings, Queens, and Other Heroes
Rev. Steven Protzman

Unitarianism flourished in Transylvania for a brief period in the 1600s under the rule of King John Sigismund. As we celebrate the Festival of the First Bread, we will step back in time to meet some of the heroes of Unitarianism in Eastern Europe as we reflect on the roots of our spiritual heritage.

You Are This Universe
Sharon Wylie

The spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. We tend to think of these teachings as ancient, but they also intersect with and inform many of our modern ideas. Come, let us consider the many ways we connect with each other and with the Divine.

Lovable Beings of Infinite Worth
Rev. Philip Lund

Mega-church pastor Rob Bell’s book, Love Wins, caused a stir last year when he wrote about topics our forebears covered centuries ago. Whatever happened to the Universalist notion of God’s infinite love in our tradition? Is there still a place for it among us?

Come Sing a Song with Me
Barbara Buddin

Barbara Buddin will lead a festival of music in hymns, songs, and anthems. We will journey through our service books and remember some of the old songs from past hymnals. There will be some variations and updates of familiar tunes. This could be considered an old fashioned "Hymn Sing."

What’s Love Got To Do With It?
Rev. Steven Protzman

The word love is the most overused and least understood word in the English language. Each week we say that love is the doctrine of this church, but as Tina Turner asks, “What’s love got to do with it?” What do we mean by the word love in the context of our religious community, and what does this love ask of us?

SUNDAY SERVICES

Sunday morning is a high point of the  week for many of us when, with our families, we come together with our minister, our choir, and some two dozen dedicated teachers from our Religious Education program.

Children

Childcare is available during Sunday services for infants and toddlers through age four.

Children older than four
participate in the first portion of the Sunday service, during which they are told or read a story (often leading to future discussion around the family table), and hear the special music for that morning, before leaving for their religious education classes.

SUNDAY SERVICES SCHEDULES

We have Sunday services at different times in the summer than during the regular, academic year:

SUMMER - June through August

  • During the summer, we have one service at 10 AM each Sunday. Our summer services are lay-led, less formal, and are held in Channing Hall, in the lower (and cooler!) level of our building.

  • Multi-age religious education classes are available for children age 3 through high school on Sundays, and we provide free child care for infants and children through age 2.

  • We also invite you to join us for lemonade at 11 AM in Channing Hall on Sunday.

ACADEMIC YEAR - September through early May

  • During the academic year, we have Sunday services at t 9:30 AM and 11:15 AM (with a few exceptions, which are noted on the web site and in our newsletter, the UU News).

  • Children are welcome! We provide free child care for infants and children through age 2, preschool for children age 3 through 5, and religious education classes that your older children may attend if they wish. Your children are also welcome to stay with you during the service.

  • We also invite you to join us for coffee and conversation from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM in Channing Hall on Sunday.

Each Sunday, one or more of our members serves as a Worship Associate
during the service, assisting and, from time to time engaging in dialogue, with our minister. Other features of the service, besides the sermon, include:

  • Solo or small-group musical presentations: anthems, hymns and musical responses by our excellent choir

  • Periods of spoken and silent meditation

  • Brief expressions by members and guests about joys and sorrows that they have recently experienced or are currently experiencing

During our Sunday "coffee and conversation" gathering after the early service, voices rise in greeting, meeting, and fellowship in Channing Hall, located downstairs in our building, until children arrive to claim their parents. All are welcome to join in!

Special services are occasionally held, such as evening vespers during Welcome Home Wednesdays, and celebrations of holidays meaningful to us, as well as to those of other faiths.
