Music
and Dance at UUSIC
Music
Fine music is a longstanding UUSIC tradition, whether presented by our choir,
soloists or small ensembles from this musically-talented community, visiting
artists, or our own members—including several of our young people each
year. We have also recently established a
UUSIC Folk Musicians group.
Choir.
The UUSIC choir performs the
musical meditation for services one Sunday
each month, and responses on other
selected Sundays. New members are always
welcome – we have no auditions. We
rehearse on Thursdays at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary
(or the library) – feel free to join in!
If you have questions, please contact
our music director, Barbara Buddin by phone (339-7432) or
email.
In addition to the UUSIC choir, each Sunday service includes
special music, which ranges from traditional to classical to jazz and
folk, performed by local artists and society members. Other opportunities
for musical expression are also available during the month.
Dances
of Universal Peace
On the second Sunday of
each month, September through April,
members and
friends gather at 6:30 PM in Channing Hall
for Dances of Universal Peace -- simple
folk dance movements, practiced in
combination with chanting or
singing of sacred words and phrases from
the world’s spiritual traditions.
Dance circles are found throughout the
world. They celebrate both the unity
and diversity of all beings and foster
connections between people. No
experience is needed, instruction is
provided by Virginia Melroy, a
certified leader of the dances.
Drum Circle
The
Yahoo Drummers meet the first Wednesday of each month in Channing Hall at 7 PM for an inclusive, fun, and rhythmic community of all styles and stripes. Bring your own instrument, or use available cow bells, Native American prayer drum, Latin conga – you’ll find room for your song!
For more information
about Dances of Universal Peace or Drum Circle,
please
email us, or attend one of their
gatherings -- all are invited!
