GREEN SANCTUARY HOLIDAY TIPS

Going green this holiday season is easier than you think. Here is a list of 5 things you can do to add a little more green to the holidays.

1 Send eco friendly holiday greeting cards. There are a variety of cards that you can send -- some support humanitarian and environmental causes; and e-cards (online greetings) are a great way save some trees, and carbon while sending your holiday greetings.
2 Consider wrapping holiday gifts in fabric. There are plenty of holiday fabrics out there, many offered at greatly reduced prices in local second hand and resale shops. If fabric isn’t the way to go for you, consider decorating with the comics in the newspaper (the idea here is try to avoid spending on something headed for the landfill!) If possible, recycle your wrapping paper.
3 Buy a living tree that you can plant after the holiday. If you do buy an artificial tree, consider buying from a second hand or resale shop. If you really must have a real tree, try to buy from a local producer.
4 Buy less -- food and products. There’s no doubt that many of the ecological problems we face are related to the amount of goods we consume. Sometimes less really is more. Go for quality over quantity, and that old saying rings true to this day: The best gifts are those from the heart (and the homemade ones)!
5 Does your front yard really need to look like Las Vegas? Probably not, so try hanging one less strand of lighting this year. If possible, use more candles.
