We are located two blocks east of downtown Iowa City, at 10 S. Gilbert Street. Map

Parking
Free Sunday parking is available:

  • In the city lot adjacent to the east side of our building
  • In the  parking ramp across Gilbert Street to our west
  • On Iowa Avenue north of our building
  • In the non-reserved section of the University of Iowa lot located diagonally across from us on the intersection of Gilbert Street and Iowa Avenue.

Children are welcome!
On Sunday, we provide free childcare for infants and children through age 2; preschool for children age 3 through 5; and religious education classes that your older children may visit if they wish. Your children are also welcome to stay with you during the service.
Office hours
During the week, the UUSIC administrative office is open, by appointment, from 10 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday through Friday. For contact information for our minister and our staff, including phone numbers and email, please visit "Contact us."

Accessibility at UUSIC
We work hard to make our century-old building both accessible and welcoming!!

  • Accessible parking: On Sundays, in the city parking lot on the east side of our UUSIC building, you will find reserved, accessible parking places near our accessible entrance.

  • Free parking is also available on Sunday in the parking ramp across the street from us; this ramp is fully accessible.

  • Accessible entrances

    • Our accessible entrance is on the east side of our building, next to the city parking lot.

    • Since we do not yet have automatic doors, you may wish to have assistance to enter the building, and to reach and board the elevator. If so, please let us know.

      • If you will be attending a Sunday service or another weekend event, and would like to have assistance, please contact us by email, or phone our office (319-337-3443) before 3 PM of the Friday before the service so that we will be expecting you.

      • If you will be attending an event during the week and would like to have assistance, please contact us at least a day before the event by email, or phone our office (319-337-3443) between 9 AM and 3 PM, Tuesday - Friday, so that we will be expecting you.

  • Getting around inside
An elevator goes from ground level to our upper floors. In Channing Hall, where we gather for coffee and other social events, you will also find a chairlift.

  • Mobility, hearing, and vision aids

Other questions
Two other questions that newcomers often have are:

What should I wear to the worship service?
It’s up to you. You will not be given the cold shoulder if you do not dress in your “Sunday best”. Some members of our congregation are comfortable coming to services in casual attire and others prefer to dress up a little.

Are there people in the congregation who believe what I believe?
If you would like to learn more about the beliefs of those in our congregation, a good place to start is About Us. To learn more about Unitarian Universalism in general, visit the web site of the
Unitarian Universalist Association.

If you have more questions about our worship services, feel free to ask the ushers as you enter or leave the sanctuary, or visit the membership table in Channing Hall (downstairs from the sanctuary) during Coffee Hour. We also invite you to email your questions to us.
