We are a "Welcoming
Congregation"
To assure an environment
where people feel safe to "tell the truth of who they are and
what they know," our board of directors in 1995 approved taking
the congregation through the official steps of becoming a UUA
"Welcoming
Congregation."
Our active
Interweave
chapter also assisted with
this process.
While we assumed that our congregation was already inclusive, we believed
it important to formally welcome lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgendered
people because so much of the justification for their mistreatment
and oppression is "religiously" motivated.
On Sunday, May 18, 1997,
our congregation voted unanimously to become a "Welcoming
Congregation," thus affirming all people and their ways of expressing
their love for each other, and validating the richness of a diverse
religious community.
Pride Parade
Members of UUSIC joined nearly a
thousand other
participants in the annual
Pride Parade, held this year on June 20,
2009, at College Green

Marriage Equality
and UUSIC
Our congregation
made history in May 2009 when we
hosted the weddings
of 17 same-sex couples from
St Louis.
We were honored to be part
of the ceremonies, and proud of
the hospitality
provided by UUSIC
leadership.
This has become a
UUSIC tradition,
with weddings
regularly
celebrated in our
sanctuary, a
tradition of which
we are proud.
