Congregational Meeting
and Sample Ballot
Sunday, January 23
11 AM,
UUSIC Sanctuary
All members are asked to attend the All-Congregation Meeting at 11 AM on Sunday, January 23, in the sanctuary. We won’t have a second service that Sunday.
At this meeting, we will vote on the 2011 operating budget.
In addition, we will distribute ballots for voting on options for the future direction of our facility-related planning. These ballots will not be voted on at this meeting, but are to be completed and returned by Monday, February
7, 2011.
During the All-Congregation Meeting, we will discuss the options on the ballot, along with the results of the board's discussion of these matters and the ongoing congregational survey.
During the two-week period after the meeting and before the ballots must be returned, we hope members will discuss these options among themselves.
When the votes have been tallied, the board will lead the subsequent discussion on more focused proposals.
The ballot asks you to vote on the following options:
|
Sample Ballot
-
Will our current building in its present form, with reasonable maintenance and essential remodeling, be adequate for fulfilling our mission as we move forward 15 to 20 years into the future?
|
Circle ONE
YES
NO |
|
Please vote on Question #2 regardless of your vote on question 1. |
|
2. Which of these options is best : |
Circle ONE |
-
Major remodeling/reconfiguration of our current site (including, perhaps, razing all or part of the current structures).
|
A |
-
Build a new building in another location.
|
B |
-
Outside-the-box idea, at another site, such as re-purposing or remodeling another existing building, renting, sharing, etc.
|
C |
We realize these are very broad choices, but they capture the basic ideas and directions that have been raised through discussion. Some congregation members are concerned about going into debt, and this is a major consideration. However, even if the congregation chooses option #1, this will not immunize us from incurring significant costs in terms of major repairs, needed improvements to accessibility, climate control, etc.
Voting process
-
Ballots will be distributed at the meeting.
-
Absentee ballots
will also be available from the office,
and may be returned by mail or

It is important to maintain voter secrecy while allowing verification that only voting members have voted, and have voted only once. To accomplish this, we fill follow the voting process below.
Ballots that do not conform to these criteria will not be counted.
-
Privacy envelopes: Completed ballots should be placed in a blank privacy envelope with no identifying information, and sealed.
-
Identifying envelopes: The privacy envelope containing the completed ballot should then be placed inside another envelope, and the voter's name should be clearly written on the outside of that envelope.
Ballots, in the appropriate envelopes, may be hand delivered to the UUSIC administration office, or mailed to:
UUSIC Attn: Building Ballot 10 S. Gilbert Street Iowa City, IA 52240
Deadline:
